Tell us something about yourself. What is your niche? Why did you start your business?
I’m Burak I’m a small, one-man, resin and wood artist. I am making resin wood wall clocks & others on my balcony. I first entered this business in order to earn additional income. I wanted it to be a job that I could do at home and create added value. But later making wall clocks turned into a passion for me rather than work.
What type of products do you sell? How does your manufacturing process look like?
First, I started to make my wall clocks on my balcony actually still making them in it 🙂 you must see! its only two square meters 🙂 I am still mostly making wall clocks now, but when the work got more intense, we started to collaborate in production with my artist friend from whom I bought my raw materials in order to keep up with the orders. Now we have also started to make coffee tables and dining tables, night lamps, etc.

What are some challenging aspects of your business? How did you overcome them?
First of all, I would like to thank dear Etsy and its customers. Because it is a platform that is very easy to use and has a customer base for sellers like me. Even if you are working in a very small area like mine, in order to satisfy your customers, your productions must be beautiful enough not to disappoint the customer. Many people were saying that I couldn’t do it by just making wall clocks and selling them for an above-average price. I was always expressing my passion for wall clocks, which decorate the most beautiful walls of people’s homes and are an object they constantly look at. After all today they understand me and support me.
What do you enjoy most about being an entrepreneur? What’s the hardest about it?
My favorite part of this business is my communication with customers and their messages that they are satisfied with the result. The most difficult part of this job is the emergence of situations that are not in your hands but that create dissatisfaction for your customers, for example, prolonged delivery times. Material and spiritual difficulties experienced by the whole world in these pandemic days.
What are some beginner mistakes you made? What advice or words of inspiration would you like to share?
I learned to make wall clocks while selling them at the same time, I watched hundreds of hours of youtube videos 🙂 I think one of my mistakes (before I learned it) is underestimate these words.”If you are not satisfied with the result, your customer will not be satisfied either.” Not to mention hundreds of trials with epoxy on the balcony with extremely simple tools.
What inspires you while designing and/or creating new products.
I still try new techniques every day to improve myself and examine the products of many different artists. To give an example, I am now obsessed with three-dimensional designs. Applying them in wall clocks requires some creativity as the field is small and it takes a lot of work to gain experience in this field.
How did you get the background and skills necessary to run this type of business?
Hundreds of hours of work and hundreds of kg of epoxy 🙂 there is no such thing as a failure, you just learned a few things you should do differently the next time you try it.
What are some of the most effective ways in terms of marketing products to your customers?
I use my Pinterest Facebook and Instagram accounts and also try the ads on Etsy. Pinterest stands out from others in social media accounts. It’s more effective than other after Etsy ads.
What would you say are the key elements for starting and running a successful online business?
Want to start a business but don’t know what kind of business yet, they need to find what they are passionate about or can be attached to. I recommend them to start a job they enjoy doing. so they can see the problems that will arise as just a few small jobs they have to tackle.
How do you personally define business success? Is it money? Freedom? Influence? Creative expression and innovation? Something else?
Actually, it is possible to count all of them. I am making my future plans on them, but also to show people the importance of wall clocks in living spaces and home decoration.
Describe your day-to-day operation. How do you manage your time?
I am also still working in a bank so I have to plan my time well. It is very enjoyable for me to work on my balcony in the evenings and on weekends. Other times we are in constant contact with my partner in production and we seek to satisfy our customers.

How do you plan on growing your business? What is the biggest impact on your profitability?
Our business can only develop if our customers are satisfied. Therefore, we are trying to produce quality works and increase the product range. For example, we opened our second store on Etsy. In order to manage profitability, you need to follow your costs very well. We follow common files for this and follow all our expenses from here. We are also constantly watching our competitors and we do not hesitate to try new things to stay ahead of them.
