What are some challenging aspects of your business? How did you overcome them?
Designing a great product is the key to a successful online business – there’s a lot of saturation in the market so you have to try to help your products stand. We use a lot of artwork as well as history to help our products look different than others.
What do you enjoy most about being an entrepreneur? What’s the hardest about it?
I love the endless pivoting that is required in my entrepreneurial life. You have to work through different challenges and listen to what the market tells you to respond to.
What are some beginner mistakes you made? What advice or words of inspiration would you like to share?
Spending money to make money isn’t a great philosophy – you can spend money when your product prices itself to be in demand by the market. It’s easy to spend money…harder to make it.
What inspires you while designing and/or creating new products.
I love the aesthetics of our sport. It’s beautiful, colorful, and pleasing.
How did you get the background and skills necessary to run this type of business?
Years of trial and error. Working towards listening is the best skill you can hone. I had to learn the hard way how to listen to the market and not think that my ideas were what the market wanted.
What are some of the most effective ways in terms of marketing products to your customers?
Word of mouth in a sphere of influence.
What would you say are the key elements for starting and running a successful online business?
Great design in areas that are underserved.
How do you personally define business success? Is it money? Freedom? Influence? Creative expression and innovation? Something else?
Freedom from the tyranny of demand is a success to me.

Describe your day-to-day operation. How do you manage your time?
I’ve set up a system that allows for design work to happen quickly – inspiration can happen anywhere so you have to have the tools to be able to design quickly. I like my online business to be fun and a creative outlet instead of work. If I can keep it in that space, the designs are better and much more interesting.
How do you plan on growing your business? What is the biggest impact on your profitability?
Need more customers in our space. Looking at specific opportunities in the online space to advertise and have articles written about.
