Tell us something about yourself, how did you get started, do you consider yourself a crafter, maker, artist…
Hi, I’m Ayse, and Welcome to TurkishRugDynasty; On the territory of Anatolia, each region’s own specially designed rug was woven. and now there are very few places that continue this tradition. When I was a kid, I learned to weave rugs with a tradition from central Anatolia from my mother and father.
Then I tried to learn all the regions. but I saw that the profession is universal and endless. After a certain level, I started to become a teacher.
Initially, I taught those around me and then many different people to weave rugs and I still teach. Now, with a special team, I am in an effort to reach the world of my traditional and used rugs, both woven by themselves and woven in various regions of Anatolia. and I am very grateful to the Etsy team who helped me with this. Warm Regards Ayse
How did you discover Etsy? Did you have any previous experience in selling handmade products? Why did you start selling online?
I discovered the ETSY site with my previous sales experiences. Then I wanted to show the world how manual labor can make a beautiful difference by highlighting my products, traditions, and naturalness. That’s why I became an Etsy seller and I’m very happy to be able to show my products to the whole world
What products do you sell, what type of materials are used in your creations, how do you design your products, what makes your products stand out?
I mainly produce hand-woven Turkish carpets. The design of these products differs in every city of Anatolia and each region has its own unique style of weaving. The yarn used is completely natural wool and its dyes are natural root dyes. I am in a completely natural environment and I produce the purest and cleanest products suitable for the vintage group. The products I produce are actually woven products at least 20 years ago, I do the necessary repairs and repairs.
How was your experience in learning to craft, are you self-taught or did you have a mentor, how long did it take for you to be satisfied with your creations?
I learned from my family elders, designing weaving is actually an art inherited from our ancestors. it is an extremely demanding job and it requires patience
What was your original goal when you opened up an Etsy shop? What impacted your decision to start selling online? Do you consider online selling as a side-job, full-time job, or extra income to pay for your hobby?
In the first place, it was a shop I opened for trial and promotional purposes for side income. but then I got the idea that this is a huge market and I started selling exactly on Etsy.

Did you have any fears or reservations before opening up your Etsy shop? Were you worried about profitability or product competitiveness? What are some concerns and questions you had before you got started? How did you overcome them?
Actually, I still have fear. Etsy gets a good commission from the sold product and the advertisement, and the competitors on the site write too low prices for the product. Etsy should eliminate these fears.
How long did it take for you to get your first sale? Did you ever think you would make a lot of sales in the first year? What was the goal you were hoping for? How many sales an average you get per week?
My first sales took place in a couple of months. I sell 10 products weekly, I think I need to go up a little more in order to develop. lower than i expected for now but i am sure it will improve as I try
Do you have a job outside Etsy? If not, are you able to commit full-time to online selling? How does your typical day look like? How do you manage time?
I have no income other than Etsy. My first thing in the morning starts with printing a bill of lading and responding to customer messages, then I find the sold products and design and ship them according to the customer’s request.
How does your manufacturing process look like for e.g. your best selling product? Do you create products ahead of the orders? Do you customize your products, if so how? What are the tools that you are using in the manufacturing process?
the production process is long progress. My best selling products are living room rugs and floor carpets, I love them too.
What is the biggest impact on the profitability of your shop? How expensive are the materials you use? How do you price your products?
I price my products according to their texture and their beauty. my customers are very satisfied with me 🙂
What inspires you when you’re creating? How do you get ideas for new products? What are some methods or tools you use to get creative?
I dream with the yarn used in the regional patterns of the product
Do you ship your product internationally? How do you handle postage pricing? What is the average time it takes from the order to the delivery? Do you use free shipping? If so, why? How do you package your products?
I ship my products internationally and with the privilege of free shipping. Free shipping is very attractive and attractive to customers. I have an agreement with the shipping company, so I send it at a nice price. If I do not ship for free, my product sales will drop. The packages are completely sterile
Are you worried about competitors? Does it impact your business in any way? If there are a lot of similar products, how do you make your own stand out?
I’m worried about competitors because the competition is in question, some of them even send messages to my customers specifically. Frankly, I have no idea how to overcome this 🙂
How do you deal with disputes or bad ratings/feedback? How do you manage presale and post-sale communication and customer satisfaction?
If we have a problem, I ask my customer what I can do for you, I do whatever my customer says, I prefer to lose money rather than lose customers.
Has selling on Etsy changed your life in any way? If so, how? Did you ever think you would get this far with your shop? Have you ever been stressed about dealing with customers and manufacturing products? How did you deal with that?
Selling on outside really started to change my life, I spend more time here than my family, I hope I can rise 🙂

How important is social media for your shop? What are some common tactics you use to promote your products? Do you spend money on ads outside of Etsy? How do you generate excitement/hype around your products?
No
What are some things you don’t like about Etsy? If you could talk to the CEO of Etsy what recommendations would you tell him to improve sellers and customer satisfaction?
First of all, I would like that I do not find it appropriate to deduct taxes from both the seller and the buyer and that the Etsy advertisements really deal with the shops according to the activity rate on the site. in short, they should be able to help those who really work
What are some things you did to set your shop for success on Etsy? What is one lesson you learned the hard way?
I tried to bring my creativity to the forefront in my products, I tried to introduce the product correctly in the advertisements, but I need some support from the meat in these matters.
What piece of advice would you give to new or established sellers or those considering selling on Etsy? How can they avoid beginner mistakes?
I have no idea
Anything you wish to add, feel free to do so here. We value your opinion
