Tell us something about yourself. What is your niche? Why did you start your business?
I am Sandra, mum of nine beautiful children from 2-26 years, and a loving wife. My passion is handmade – crochet items that I make from organic cotton or natural materials. I focused on a house with modern and simple slippers that people like them so much. Also, I love to make children’s toys, bunnies, teddy bears, giraffes, dolls. It is a pleasure to create them. I start my business on Etsy in very strange circumstances… tired of the work that I have been doing until then I just want to have great and do what I love to do. A passion for a handmade awoke again in me, I wore it from early childhood. When I saw that my first toy looks so great I said: “Yes, this is what I want to do whole my life” Then step by step I found an Etsy and start… without any expectations, just wanted to have all my things on one place. I remember my first sale after 6 months, that was a giraffe and I was very excited…
What type of products do you sell? How does your manufacturing process look like?
I sell house slippers made from organic cotton and crochet toys, also organic lavender decorations. I make it all by myself, from a first crochet point to the packaging.

What are some challenging aspects of your business? How did you overcome them?
Maybe it is strange for some people but as I have a lot of other obligations to do, I don’t want to make a big business with my passion and don’t want to include other people in this little family business… it would turn into work with no pleasure. Then everything loses its meaning and turns into money. This is what I don’t want to happen.
What do you enjoy most about being an entrepreneur? What’s the hardest about it?
I enjoy creating this thing. All the administrative things and financial planning are hard for me.
What are some beginner mistakes you made? What advice or words of inspiration would you like to share?
My biggest mistake was my distrust in my work… I didn’t believe that is possible that would people buy my products and love them so much! Believe in yourself and love your work, success then comes. Don’t give up, it needs some time to get confidence from your customers.
What inspires you while designing and/or creating new products.
It brings me peace and the rest of all other obligations. Also, it moves my own boundaries. Also, in the end, it brings me money.
How did you get the background and skills necessary to run this type of business?
Step by step. Thanks to my mother I learned to crochet and similar handmade like a child. It just needed to be perfected. Also helps me with other Etsy people experiences.
What are some of the most effective ways in terms of marketing products to your customers?
At this point in my business, I have to admit that I don’t use any other marketing tools except Etsy marketing tools, Pinterest, and Instagram.
What would you say are the key elements for starting and running a successful online business?
Good idea, unique products, own recognizability, and a lot of passion and patience.
How do you personally define business success? Is it money? Freedom? Influence? Creative expression and innovation? Something else?
I think that I already answer this, for me is a passion and satisfaction in creating, then freedom in work, you can work when you want, and in the end, money that brings you some other satisfactions.
Describe your day-to-day operation. How do you manage your time?
I have different days and times to work. It always depends on the children’s needs and other obligations I have to do. On average I dedicate to my work about 3-4 hours a day. Except in the holidays like Christmas time when I get more orders and is normally that I need a lot of time to make, sometimes I work a whole day. These days all the family is included.

How do you plan on growing your business? What is the biggest impact on your profitability?
In my head are a lot of new ideas to create. I wish I could have more time to do it. My plan is to offer a wide range of creations. The biggest impact on my profitability is my time, or better say lack of time.
