Tell us something about yourself. What is your niche? How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
I am just your average woman who loves to create. I have always enjoyed making unique gifts for people growing up and after seeing a few friends of mine start an Etsy shop of their own I decided that I should do one too and really make money doing what I love to do. I do not have a specific art style I just make whatever comes to mind. I just love all styles of art. Art is just unique and beautiful and just so much fun to me.
What are your responsibilities as a business owner?
I do everything by myself. I promote my own stuff, use my social media platforms to my advantage, I make sure my stuff is up to date and correct, etc…
What are your best selling products, what type of materials are used in your creations, how do you design your products, what makes your products stand out?
My personal favorite item to make is my signature Memory Boxes. I do not know what I started making them but I always enjoy doing them. It’s unique and different and I feel makes a person feel special and can make someone’s day to have one. I would make one for my partner at the time and the most recent one I made was for a close friend who lost a family member so I made one for her and her sister and they use it to store items that reminded them of that person. It brought tears to her eyes. I would take a box I found usually a good shoebox and start painting the whole thing and decorating it with whatever I had and each box is different from one another unless someone wants multiple boxes the same but usually they are all very different. I am known for my creativity and that is one item that really shows my true talents!
What do you enjoy most about being an entrepreneur? What’s the hardest about it?
I love that I can do what I love and make money doing it! I’m becoming a businesswoman. It will take time to get to where I want but I am very looking forward to what the future has in store for me.
Who do you sell to (and how do you get customers)? What marketing tools or strategies you use to boost your sales? Are you satisfied with the results?
Mostly Family members and close friends. I make more customizable art pieces and home decor and so far I have a few people that really enjoy my work and that makes me very happy.
Do you believe there is a winning formula for becoming a successful entrepreneur? What is yours?
Yes. Mine is just being able to do what I love. If you enjoy what you do, you are more like to succeed and move up in life.
What was the toughest moment you have experienced in your business practice? How did you succeed to get over it and move forward?
My toughest moment right now is being able to attract more people. I am a new business so things take time and lots of hard work which I am prepared to do.
What inspires you when you’re creating? How do you get ideas for new products? What are some methods or tools you use to get creative?
I have always had a natural love to create ever since I was a kid. Art is my biggest passion. I create whatever I want with whatever idea comes to mind.
Do you ship your product internationally? How do you handle postage pricing? What is the average time it takes from the order to the delivery? Do you use free shipping? If so, why? How do you package your products?
I have free shipping available for local only. I only ship locally, for now. Once I reach my goal to have everything flowing correctly and I get the hand of working on my business by myself I will then branch out internationally. For now, it takes 3-5 business days or 1-2 weeks delivery depending on the item and location.
What would you say are the key elements for starting and running a successful online business?
I have no idea. Like I said I am a new shop that is starting out. I am going to have trial and error but I do know that if you have a cute shop name that tells customers an idea of what your ship is about that will definitely draw some people’s attention.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs who are starting out?
Do what you love and just go for it! If you know you can do it then DO IT!
How do you personally define business success? Is it money? Freedom? Influence? Creative expression and innovation? Something else?
For me, success is financial stability and being able to do what I love!
Describe your day-to-day operation. How do you manage your time?
My day varies on what I need to do so it’s hard to manage my time. However, in most cases, I work more on the weekends when I have my free time. I wake up, have some coffee, and start writing and sketching ideas on what o need to do. Then I gather all my supplies and go straight to work all day.
How do you plan on growing your business? What is the biggest impact on your profitability?
I am planning on promoting my stuff and planning ahead and having help by trust people to help me get more customers!
What are some things you did to set your shop for success on Etsy? What is one lesson you learned the hard way?
I asked people if I should do it and they told me to because of my creativity and how much I love to create and I did exactly that! I am still learning how to do all this all on my own but everything is baby steps and hard work will pay off one day!
