Tell us something about yourself, how did you get started, do you consider yourself a crafter, maker, artist…

Hi! I’m an artist and I sell my art in the form of stickers and tee shirts on Etsy! It was a bit confusing at first figuring out which platforms run the best and suited my needs but once I got it up and running it was a breeze! It took me about a month to figure everything out the first time around but now I’m pretty confident and have successfully ran 2 Etsy stores!

How did you discover Etsy? Did you have any previous experience in selling handmade products? Why did you start selling online?

This was my first time starting a store! I saw a few people on tiktok start their stores and I was like hey! I can do that! I had no previous experience but it’s totally worth it!

What products do you sell, what type of materials are used in your creations, how do you design your products, what makes your products stand out?

I sell everything from stickers to tee shirts to masks! Anything that I can put my art on really! My shop is specifically for cute and funny gifts for family and friends or even yourself!

How was your experience in learning to craft, are you self-taught or did you have a mentor, how long did it take for you to be satisfied with your creations

I am self taught! One day I just picked up procreate and began drawing! I started off super simple with tracing real life objects and once I felt more comfortable began drawing on my own!

What was your original goal when you opened up an Etsy shop? What impacted your decision to start selling online? Do you consider online selling as a side-job, full-time job, or extra income to pay for your hobby?

I recently got furloughed from my job due to covid 19 so I wanted to try new ways to make some income!for now this is just some extra income!

Did you have any fears or reservations before opening up your Etsy shop? Were you worried about profitability or product competitiveness? What are some concerns and questions you had before you got started? How did you overcome them?

Absolutely! I think my biggest obstacle was trying to convince myself that I could actually do it and to stop making excuses! I was so afraid of failure! But it turns out that selling on Etsy is such a great way to make some extra money on the side!

How long did it take for you to get your first sale? Did you ever think you would make a lot of sales in the first year? What was the goal you were hoping for? How many sales an average you get per week?

My first order came I believe three days after I opened my shop! I was so excited I couldn’t believe it! One thing I’ve learned is that there’s an audience out there for you! I believe I averaged around 4 sales a week! With each sale doing about 40$!

Do you have a job outside Etsy? If not, are you able to commit full-time to online selling? How does your typical day look like? How do you manage time?

Right now I am a full time artist. I mainly work on music through out the week and during my break times I run my shop. I set about 4 hrs a day to run it.

How does your manufacturing process look like for e.g. your best selling product? Do you create products ahead of the orders? Do you customize your products, if so how? What are the tools that you are using in the manufacturing process?

Right now I have been using printify and printful to make my products! They’ve been such a huge help since I don’t have the money right now to purchase the equipment I need in order to make everything myself yet. They do so well with Etsy integration! All I do is upload my pieces, place them on the items I wish to place them on and list them! They take care of the rest! They do shipping and returns and keep track of each order that comes in through Etsy!

What is the biggest impact on the profitability of your shop? How expensive are the materials you use? How do you price your products?

Advertising advertising advertising! I would say I spend most of my costs on advertisements. I usually price my products based on the market! I do some research and see how much similar products are selling for and price accordingly.

What inspires you when you’re creating? How do you get ideas for new products? What are some methods or tools you use to get creative?

Pinterest actually helps a lot! I have a collection of just things I like! Cartoons, food, animals it’s all just basically everything I like!

Do you ship your product internationally? How do you handle postage pricing? What is the average time it takes from the order to the delivery? Do you use free shipping? If so, why? How do you package your products?

Printify and printful are actually very good when it comes to handling shipping! They already have built in shipping calculators!

Are you worried about competitors? Does it impact your business in any way? If there are a lot of similar products, how do you make your own standout?

Not really! I’m not too worried about competing against other stores! My products are all unique in their own way!

How do you deal with disputes or bad ratings/feedback? How do you manage presale and post-sale communication and customer satisfaction?

I haven’t had that yet! I usually communicate with my customers on Etsy!

Has selling on Etsy changed your life in any way? If so, how? Did you ever think you would get this far with your shop? Have you ever been stressed about dealing with customers and manufacturing products? How did you deal with that?

It’s opened up the doors to entrepreneurship! I’ve officially caught the bug and can’t stop opening stores! Haha

How important is social media for your shop? What are some common tactics you use to promote your products? Do you spend money on ads outside of Etsy? How do you generate excitement/hype around your products?

Social media is super important! It’s a great way to find your specific audience and reach out to them personally!

Don’t really have anything right now!
