Tell us something about yourself, how did you get started, do you consider yourself a crafter, maker, artist…

I started JazzyBees to offer products that helped me restore my overall health. I suffer from a few illnesses and I’m not a very huge fan of medicine. I just recently had a baby and the delivery/postpartum period was very traumatic for me. I suffered from postpartum eclampsia. I started having a lot of anxiety once I was finally home and I drifted off into a deep depression. I had no energy to do the daily things that I enjoyed doing around the house or interacting with my children. I started a daily regimen and started feeling like myself again within a week. I thought to myself if these products can help me, I know there are other moms that could benefit from them as well. I used the detox teas and was back to my pre-pregnancy weight within 30 days. I am a product of the products I sell!

How did you discover Etsy? Did you have any previous experience in selling handmade products? Why did you start selling online?

I’m a huge Etsy shopper, I had no experience in selling items of my own. I just took a chance and things are going great!

What products do you sell, what type of materials are used in your creations, how do you design your products, what makes your products stand out?

The products that I sell are already made to order. The products are natural and extremely healthy!

How was your experience in learning to craft, are you self-taught or did you have a mentor, how long did it take for you to be satisfied with your creations?

I am a self-taught overall crafty person. I design T-shirts as well which I am in the process of adding to my website.

What was your original goal when you opened up an Etsy shop? What impacted your decision to start selling online? Do you consider online selling as a side-job, full-time job, or extra income to pay for your hobby?

My original goal was to provide products that helped me feel good. I figured that a lot of moms, in general, may not know about the company’s total life changes and the benefits of their products. Selling on Etsy is extra income for me at the moment but I do plan on making it a full-time job!

Did you have any fears or reservations before opening up your Etsy shop? Were you worried about profitability or product competitiveness? What are some concerns and questions you had before you got started? How did you overcome them?

I wasn’t very worried about opening my shop overall. Even though there are actually quite a few shops on Etsy that offer the same products as I do. My shop has been very profitable, I try to maintain as much customer interaction as possible which has worked out in my favor. I send thank-you notes as well as complimentary samples to my customers as a token of appreciation.

How long did it take for you to get your first sale? Did you ever think you would make a lot of sales in the first year? What was the goal you were hoping for? How many sales an average you get per week?

3 days after opening my shop I had already made over $700. I was honestly amazed at how well sales were going. My realistic goal was to get at least 4-5 sales a week. I average 11 sales a week.

Do you have a job outside Etsy? If not, are you able to commit full-time to online selling? How does your typical day look like? How do you manage time?

I’m a stay at home mom, and my typical day consists of me chasing toddlers around the house. Right now we are doing virtual learning due to the pandemic, which is time-consuming. I have a day to day schedule that I use and I plan my day according to their class schedules. I mostly work my Etsy shop from my cellphone, and once my husband arrives home from work I’m able to go to the post office to ship products off to customers. I plan on turning my Etsy shop into a full-time business.

How does your manufacturing process look like for e.g. your best selling product? Do you create products ahead of the orders? Do you customize your products, if so how? What are the tools that you are using in the manufacturing process?

The products that I offer are already made. I have a back-office supply closet with products to ship out to customers. My best selling products are the nutraburst liquid multivitamin and the Iaso detox tea.

What is the biggest impact on the profitability of your shop? How expensive are the materials you use? How do you price your products?

I price my products on my Etsy website cheaper than the actual price customers would pay if they ordered from my total life changes website. I also offer free shipping which is a huge plus for customers.

What inspires you when you’re creating? How do you get ideas for new products? What are some methods or tools you use to get creative?

When creating items I base my ideas on what is in style or trending at the moment. CBD products are a trend at the moment, and on my site, I offer CBD topical cream for overall relief as well as a few other items.

Do you ship your product internationally? How do you handle postage pricing? What is the average time it takes from the order to the delivery? Do you use free shipping? If so, why? How do you package your products?

I offer free shipping because I know the price of shipping fluctuates and it can be a hassle for shoppers that are shopping with a budget in mind. My customers receive their products within 2-3 days after purchase.

Are you worried about competitors? Does it impact your business in any way? If there are a lot of similar products, how do you make your own stand out?

No, the competition on Etsy doesn’t impact my business in any way. I try to offer different kits as well as sample bags to make my shop standout.

How do you deal with disputes or bad ratings/feedback? How do you manage presale and post-sale communication and customer satisfaction?

Fortunately, I haven’t had any disputes or negative feedback. Once an order is placed with me if time permits I ship it the same day and supply the customer with the tracking number. Once I’m notified that the customer has received their item, I send a thank you message and reassure them that I am available to answer any questions that they may have about their order.

Has selling on Etsy changed your life in any way? If so, how? Did you ever think you would get this far with your shop? Have you ever been stressed about dealing with customers and manufacturing products? How did you deal with that?

Selling on Etsy has definitely changed my life. It has given me a new profound hobby that I enjoy. I wasn’t sure how well I would do once I got things started but now I am extremely confident and very proud of my shop.

How important is social media for your shop? What are some common tactics you use to promote your products? Do you spend money on ads outside of Etsy? How do you generate excitement/hype around your products?

I do pay for the promotion ads that Etsy offers as well as promote my business on several social media sites. I post sales and new items on Instagram where I have almost 4K followers. I post videos working out while using my products and also before and after photos to show how well the products work.

What are some things you don’t like about Etsy? If you could talk to the CEO of Etsy what recommendations would you tell him to improve sellers and customer satisfaction?

I’m completely satisfied with my experience on Etsy!

What are some things you did to set your shop for success on Etsy? What is one lesson you learned the hard way?

I explained every product in detail and also explained the benefits so customers knew exactly what they were purchasing. One lesson I learned is to make sure you have the correct quantities listed or you may lose a sale.

What piece of advice would you give to new or established sellers or those considering selling on Etsy? How can they avoid beginner mistakes?

Interact with your customers! The main goal of your shop should be customer satisfaction and that she be from the beginning to the end of every transaction. If a customer is unsatisfied with their order, try to accommodate them and work together for a better solution.
