Tell us something about yourself. What is your niche? How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
My name is Nivaan. I am working as a seller on eBay for 5 years now and recently I have started working on Etsy as well. My niche is digital products for home decor & scrapbook. Since I started working online I have always been in selling physical goods but as everyone knows that the world is going through tough times because of COVID 19. I realized that selling physical goods is not possible in such conditions so I had to create something where no manpower is involved. So I decided to go for digital products as I have also learned Photoshop in my early career days.
What are your responsibilities as a business owner?
When you sell digital products, there’s nothing much to take care of except creating good quality content on a regular basis. I am still far away from my goals yet, however, as a business owner I am responsible enough to communicate with my buyers on time and restock my items instantly as they get sold.
What are your best selling products, what type of materials are used in your creations, how do you design your products, what makes your products stand out?
As there are not even 100 listings on my account and I am still a beginner on the Etsy platform so there is one product (https://www.etsy.com/listing/799078373/abstract-color-block-wall-art-set-of-3) which got popular and hot selling on my account which has given the highest revenue till date. I create my products in adobe Photoshop solely. I think the quality and attractive colors make my listings stand out even after being so less in numbers/quantity.
What do you enjoy most about being an entrepreneur? What’s the hardest about it?
I enjoy the freedom of working alone from anywhere with no communication with anybody like I used to do it when I was selling physical products. The hardest thing is that when you have so much liberty to work anytime and anywhere makes you quite lazy 😉
Who do you sell to (and how do you get customers)? What marketing tools or strategies you use to boost your sales? Are you satisfied with the results?
I sell to direct end customers. I receive traffic from Etsy marketing tools such as Etsy ads, Sales & Coupons, etc but I also share my products on Pinterest so I do get some traffic from there too. Results are fine as compared to the number of efforts. I really think if I work more efficiently and in a more disciplined way then definitely I would reach another level.
Do you believe there is a winning formula for becoming a successful entrepreneur? What is yours?
Yes, I believe that if you believe in yourself and work hard with all your heart and soul then you can definitely be successful in any field.
What was the toughest moment you have experienced in your business practice? How did you succeed to get over it and move forward?
I had around 5 different stores on eBay which would make around $40k – $50k in a month in total. I had 5 employees to work on each account but due to their leisure attitude, all my accounts went into very big trouble and my business collapsed all of a sudden in front of my eyes. That time, that 1 full year was the toughest time I have ever experienced. It took time for me to digest the loss and the later consequences which I had to face especially the financial one and the mental stress which you get free in such conditions. With my will power and efforts, I have moved forward now and prefer to move slow and steady in business now.
What inspires you when you’re creating? How do you get ideas for new products? What are some methods or tools you use to get creative?
I feel there is no better motivation that money in this world. All my previous experiences inspire me to work harder and earn money to live life with dignity. I see a lot of products related to my interest in the internet and I shortlist a few of them which I like the most and then I create it with my personal touch. There’s no method or tool for being creative, you just need to have a better vision and understanding that’s it.
Do you ship your product internationally? How do you handle postage pricing? What is the average time it takes from the order to the delivery? Do you use free shipping? If so, why? How do you package your products?
My products are digital and available to download in almost all countries. I have no hustles of shipping and packing the product.
What would you say are the key elements for starting and running a successful online business?
Deciding a niche in which you are confident enough to work years and years without getting bored. Do something which interests you.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs who are starting out?
Have faith in yourself that you are super capable of doing it.
How do you personally define business success? Is it money? Freedom? Influence? Creative expression and innovation? Something else?
The answer is in the question itself. Money, freedom, influence, creative expression, and innovation.
Describe your day-to-day operation. How do you manage your time?
I do all household work on an everyday basis as I live alone. I have a few projects on which I am currently working, also I am learning software for my projects. I dedicate a half-day to my home and the other half to my work.
How do you plan on growing your business? What is the biggest impact on your profitability?
As I told earlier that I am working on some projects including eBay, Etsy, social media marketing, software learning, and so on, so I would take the coming 6 months to grow full-fledged. After completing these short and mid-term goals I believe I will be in a much much better financial condition than what I am on today. Profitability is expected to grow by 200%.
What are some things you did to set your shop for success on Etsy? What is one lesson you learned the hard way?
Proper R & D on my niche and implementation on plans. I have learned that nothing is impossible if your will is strong.
Anything you wish to add, feel free to do so here. We value your opinion
